British Values

At La Petite we teach British Values as part of our everyday good practice, through:

Democracy:

  • Children are listened to and encouraged to share their views and respect the views of others, and to communicate their feelings.
  • Children are supported in, and given opportunity to make, decisions.
  • Activities are provided that involve turn taking and working as part of a team.

Rule of Law:

  • Children are taught to understand consequences and learn right from wrong, and that rules are there to protect us, and the reasons behind them.
  • Golden rules are enforced by staff, children, and parents, as age appropriate.

Individual Liberty:

  • Children are supported to develop a sense of pride in themselves and their achievements through praise and positive reinforcements.
  • Staff provide activities to nurture and develop self-confidence and self-esteem.
  • Children are encouraged to make their own decisions in a safe and supportive environment.

Mutual Respect:

  • Staff demonstrate an ethos based on inclusive practice and tolerance where views, faiths, cultures and races are valued and embraced.
  • Staff encourage role model and support children to share and respect others’ views.
